KNR Jewellery is BARKING MAD! Our new charity link

Dogs for the DisabledFollowing the successful links made with our other local charities, Helen and Douglas House in Oxford and Oxfordshire SANDS, KNR Jewellery is also proud to announce our latest charity link…Dogs for Disabled.

Dogs for the Disabled is a life-transforming charity, creating exceptional partnerships between people living with disability and specially trained assistance dogs.

Through practical assistance a dog can offer freedom and independence to children and adults with physical disabilities and children with autism.

In addition an assistance dog becomes a reason to go out, giving a new found confidence that opens doors to fresh opportunities including friendships, hobbies, education and even careers. The partnerships they create between people with disabilities and dogs are life-changing.

10% of all orders placed with KNR Jewellery, as a result of hearing from us through Dogs for Disabled, is donated back to the charity. Likewise, our 10% donations continue with Helen and Douglas House and Oxfordshire SANDS.

Helen & Douglas House has the time and expertise to care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions and support their families. The two hospice houses offer specialist symptom and pain management, medically-supported short breaks and end-of-life care, as well as counselling and practical support for the whole family. Helen House was opened in 1982 as the world’s first children’s hospice and is currently undergoing a refurbishment, due to reopen later this year. Douglas House opened in 2004 specifically for young adults aged 16-35.

Oxfordshire SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity) is an amazing charity supporting anyone in Oxfordshire affected by the tragic death of a baby and supporting research into why 17 babies die every day in the UK. The money we raise will go towards a resuscitation unit for our very own Horton Hospital and Oxford’s JR hospital, as well as antenatal equipment, midwife trading and support for parents.

In the last few months KNR Jewellery has donated over £700 to these local charities. And long may it continue!

If you have heard of KNR Jewellery through one of these charities, and would like 10% of your order to be donated back to them, please let us know at the time of ordering.

Trying New Ideas for Father’s Day

image

Welcome to my blog!

I’m always open to new ideas and recently got asked to make golf markers for Father’s Day. I’d not made these before so was totally guided by the customer and set to work.

I came up with a simply disc about the size of penny. She had one with her youngest’s hand print on and another with her eldest’s drawing of ‘Dad playing golf’. I was really pleased with how these came out so shared them on Facebook (please excuse the snapshots) and this generated further interest so having made a few golf markers now, I have decided to add them as a new product. Coming soon to the website but available to order now via email.

Golf Markers with a Fingerprint are £45.
Golf Markers with a Hand/Foot/Drawing or Word (needs to be short eg Dad) are £55.

Traditionally golf markers tend to be round but you can choose any standard charm shape. Larger sizes are also available at additional cost!

If you have any unusual requests or something you’d like me to try, I’m always happy to give it a go!

Would love some feedback on these either via Facebook or email

Toddle About Northants Jan-Mar 2013 Mums Making It

Mums Making it

If you’re planning a career change in 2013, you’ve probably considered working for yourself in some way — after all, if you’re the boss then you can organise your working hours around your children. It’s not an easy balancing act though, so we asked Kirstie Reynolds from KNR

Jewellery for her tips on being a mum AND a business owner.

Business: Personalised silver, fingerprint jewellery

Why did you decide to work for yourself?

It was quite natural for me as my parents had their own business. I set up in 1999 after travelling for a year post-university and ran the business part time for 8 years, alongside my day job as a teacher. When I was pregnant with our first son, Oliver (now nearly 4), my husband and I decided that the time was right for me to pursue my business dreams.

How did you choose what to do?

I followed my passions. My degree was in ceramics, during which I met someone using malleable silver, which is clay-like, but silver – I had to have a go and I got hooked! I started making jewellery collections and it was only natural to take Oliver’s impressions in silver when he arrived.
